When Australians want a comedian that looks like Phillip Seymour-Hoffman they turn to Peter Helliar.
Pete first came to the nation’s attention in 1999 as a cast member of rove, Rove McManus’ first series on the Nine Network. When the show moved house to Network Ten in 2000, Pete went with it, becoming an integral part of the Logie Award-winning variety program.
In 2003 Pete took on Australian Rules football with After The Game which later went on to become known as Before The Game. In 2005 Pete created Bryan Strauchan, Collingwood rooky and footy superstar in the making. 'Strauchanie' created an AFL sensation picking up an AFL Personality of the Year Award, getting his own car in the Grand Final Parade, and even being immortalised on his own official AFL Footy Card. In 2006 Strauchanie went multi-media with the launch of his own DVD – Strauchanie: Pure B.S., which quickly made the top-sellers’ list.
In addition to his television 'day job', Pete is also a seasoned radio performer, and has enjoyed successful co-hosting roles on several of Australia’s high profile commercial networks including Austereo and DMG’s Nova, and is invited back regularly as special guest on many of the major high rating programs.
As one of Australia’s best-loved stand-up comedians, Pete’s live performances are always a favourite with audiences, and his annual gigs on the Australian comedy festival circuit have been described by The Age in Melbourne as "Wonderful... a bizarre revelation".
