Bert started his 55 year career in showbiz with a job in Melbourne radio in the early 1950s. First he worked behind the scenes and then as a radio announcer – at only 15 years old!
Bert was there in TV's first days of broadcasting with a tonight show, followed by a historic partnership with Graham Kennedy on the innovative 'In Melbourne Tonight'. He later teamed up with Don Lane on 'The Don Lane Show', and their unique and award-winning partnership entertained a massive audience for almost 10 years.
While he was hosting 'New Faces' for a staggering 22 years, Bert also hosted his own tonight show, 'Tonight With Bert Newton', and later starred on Channel Ten's 'Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton' for 14 years, one of the longest-running and most successful daytime shows in Australia.
Off-screen, Bert has hit the theatre in starring roles in national productions of The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, The Sound of Music and The Producers. Through this amazing journey, Bert has been accompanied by wife Patti and their two children, Matthew and Lauren Newton, who are all entertainers.
Bert joins Rove on the show this Sunday after catching his breath from blowing out the candles at his 70th birthday celebrations.
Pretend that you are far more interesting than you actually are. Make up fun facts about yourself, for example, that you invented yoghurt.
